My friend and fellow Bradford alumnus, Chris Clark, has a website called Geek Force Five. The site is subtitled, “The Five Most Notable Manifestations of Awesomeness in One Geek’s Universe,” which basically means Chris uses the site to talk about his obsessions Kevin Smith, Lost, Nine Inch Nails, Apple products, and Marvel comics. When he first launched the site, he asked his friends to post their personal Geek Force Fives, and here is what I submitted:

  1. MacGyver
  2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  3. my family and friends
  4. Beverly Hills 90210
  5. movies

Chris gave me some (admittedly deserved) grief about including 90210 on my list, but c’mon, what’s better than a super cheesy nighttime teen soap from the 1990s? Chris invited me to become a “Guest Geek” on the site, so today he posted my first contribution, “Beverly Hills Breakdown: The Donna Martin Top Five.” You can check it out here.

In other news, I hit the 1100 mark on the TransAmerica trail. Here’s a photo of my current location on the map, 11.91 mi to Eddyville, Illinois:

And this is really exciting: Today my friend Paul from Element K asked me to help him and some other people train a group who will be walking their first half marathon in the fall. I’m so honored! And excited. Who would ever believe that I would be asked to coach someone in an athletic capacity?!

Lest We Forget

Happy Memorial Day! It was a full weekend of festivities, as not only did Dad march in the Penn Yan parade today, but Jeffrey came home from the Air Force to surprise everyone! Above is a picture of Dad at the post-parade ceremonies at the court house; below is a picture of Sarah, Jeff, and Debbie (with Jen thrown in for good measure!).

And here’s a picture of Uncle Paul, proudly wearing his Marine colors. Paul served in the USMC during World War II.

Grandpa Richmond, who also served during World War II, obviously had a bit too much fun at the picnic on Ogden Street yesterday, as this photo attests:

And finally, two sure signs of summer: the duck floating in the pool (we went swimming today – yay for heated pools!), and Bussey cooking burgers and dogs on the grill.

There are a bunch more photos from the picnic, Jeff’s visit, and the Memorial Day parade in the new Summer 2008 album here. A big Memorial Day thank you to Dad, Grandpa, Paul, Jeff, and all the men and women who have served and are serving our country.

What Would Rosie Coletti Think?

Congratulations (a day late) to Mom and Bussey! Yesterday was their 38th wedding anniversary. The picture above is from our summer trip to Seabreeze.

And now for a little trivia… The title of this post is a reference to:

  1. Dad’s former “girlfriend,” who (whom? I should know this) he used to tell us stories about when we were little.
  2. Al’s former girlfriend on Happy Days (who apparently was actually named ‘Rosa’).
  3. A running joke that still makes us laugh.
  4. All of the above.

If you guessed #4, you’re right. Happy anniversary, Mom and Dad!

A Saturday in May

My friend Andrea and I have been talking for awhile now about getting together to practice our photography skills. Today we braved the rain and took our cameras to Mount Hope Cemetery here in Rochester. The cemetery is huge and beautiful, and even though we spent a good two hours there, I think we only saw a fraction of the place. My favorite picture from the day is the one above. You can see the rest of my pictures here.

Tonight Meghan and I went to the Rochester Rhinos game because Bo Bice was performing at half time and after the game. Yay! It was really windy and cold, but the show was fantastic (the soccer game was so-so). We didn’t end up staying for the whole concert because poor Meggie has to get up at four o’clock tomorrow morning to take care of the patients at Soldiers & Sailors. But I managed to take a bunch of great pictures, which you can see here. And you can watch a little 30-second video by clicking here (might take awhile to load, so be patient!).

In 247 Days…*

May 16th, 2008

houston.jpg

… I will be running my first whole marathon! Yep, I’ve signed up to tackle a full 26.2. I’m going to run the Houston Marathon, which is in January. Lisa and Q are already signed up for the whole, and Justin is going to run the half. Why Houston? Because it’s one of the fastest and flattest courses in America. And if there’s one four-letter word I love, it’s F-L-A-T!

*No guarantee that my math is right. But I thought that the number of days sounded more impressive than “eight months,” or even “waaay too soon even though it’s more than half a year away.”

Hey Mama

Happy Mother’s Day! Spent the day in Penn Yan with the family, of course. Forgot my camera (again, of course), so all of these pictures were taken with my cell phone. Better than nothing! Above is a picture of me and my own dear mama.

Extra special birthday wishes to Grandma Richmond, who celebrated her 84th today. Here’s a super cute shot of Grandpa and Grandma, squeezed together on the kitchen stairs:

And here’s proof that Grandma was willing to fight dirty when it came to getting the last bit of Waldorf Salad from Meghan:

Happy Mother’s Day to Mom, Grandma, Tracy, Debbie, Cindy, Ann, Arlene, Favorite Cousin, Sarah W-M, Liz, Michelle ma belle, Crystal, my Nashville moms Sandra and Linda, and all the other wonderful moms out there!

Goodbye, Virginia

After four sweaty, humid miles on the canal path yesterday, I logged my miles on the TransAmerica site and… crossed out of Virginia and into Illinois. Whee!

macbook.jpg

Also yesterday, I treated myself to a “Congratulations, You Got a New Job” present: a new MacBook! I went from a 40gb hard drive to a 160gb drive, and from a turtle-slow processor to a core 2 duo. My first action now that I have so much room? Downloading both series of Torchwood from iTunes!

First day of the new job is tomorrow. Wish me luck!
