The Old Lady Gets Even Older
February 24th, 2009This Is Retirement
February 15th, 2009This afternoon, Mom and Dad reenacted that famous Brady Bunch episode where the gang goes to Hawaii! (Which is way less frightening than when they reenact the “O Come All Ye Faithful” scene from the Christmas reunion special.)
Er, actually, this afternoon we celebrated (again!) Mom’s retirement! Mom got a ton of great gag gifts, we ate good food, and we all shed a few tears. There are a bunch of photos to see here. Happy retirement, Mom and Dad!
P.S. If you feel the need to try out your new outfits in Hawaii, just remember: I’ve got tons of vacation time!
Welcome to Kansas!
February 11th, 2009Love the New ‘Do!
February 8th, 2009Today was Gilda’s Walk for Wellness at Greece Ridge Mall. If you raised enough money, you received a really fabulous piece of foam Gilda’s hair, which Jennie and I are modeling in the picture above. Thank you so much to everyone who donated to my team – and thanks to my team members, Julie, Linds, Sarah, Debbie, Tracy, Mom, and Jennie. Here’s some of the crew:
And here’s one last shot of Jen in her Gilda’s hair (which, apparently, could also serve as a sun visor and/or sombrero!) on our way home from lunch:
There’s still time to donate, if you’re feeling generous. Just go here and click Sponsor Participant!
Sunshine on My Shoulders
February 4th, 2009Toes. Bare toes. Covered with sand. In January! Which means: I went to Florida. Spent four days there last week(end) with Liz and her friend Shawn from Nashville. It was 80 the morning we flew into Fort Lauderdale, but by the afternoon the clouds had rolled in and it was only in the upper 60s. Still, it was fabulous to see green grass and palm trees instead of a foot of snow and salt-covered cars!
On Saturday we took the Water Taxi along the Intercoastal Waterway, where we saw humongous houses and $60 million yachts. Unreal! Strolled along the River Walk (the photo above is from a restaurant there), went to an art festival, and even did some shoe shopping (of course!). Here’s a picture of me trying out a lovely tiara at the Galleria:
Spent a lot of time at a bar called the Blue Martini, where I tried a pear-flavored and a grape-flavored drink (the grape one even had a flower floating in it). Here’s my favorite photo from the trip, a close-up of a drink Liz ordered:
On Sunday the weather was much warmer, and we were able to get in some serious beach and pool time. Yay! After warming ourselves in the sun all day, we had a delicious meal of stone crab at a restaurant on the water, where I took this picture:
There a ton more photos of the trip here. I also have a few shots that I need to transfer from my cell phone, but we’ll leave that for another day, just to extend the memories of being somewhere where it isn’t constantly snowing!
