Yesterday Jennie and her Yates Greats teammates participated in a regional Special Olympics track and field event. Jennie came home with three medals: a silver in the softball throw, and golds in both the 100-meter walk and the 400-meter walk. Everyone on the team came home with at least one medal. Congratulations, Yates Greats! Above is a picture of Jennie crossing the finish line of the 100-meter walk. There are a bunch more photos from the day here. And here’s a short video of Jennie during the race – all smiles!
The title of this post comes from the Special Olympics motto:
Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.
Happy 40th anniversary to Mom and Dad! They were married on May 18. 1970. Here’s a picture of them at Sunday coffee at Grandma and Grandpa’s.
On Saturday, I joined some Gilda’s folks to celebrate a bunch of happy occasions: Patience and her family visiting Rochester, Brian’s doctoral graduation, Julia’s masters graduation, and the birthdays of Annette, Nathan, and Roni. Here’s a picture of me and Julia doing our Animal and/or Tyrannosaurus Rex impression:
There are bunch more photos from the Saturday party and from Sunday in PY in the Spring 2010 album here (scroll down).
The title of this post comes from a quote by Gene Perret:
Our wedding was many years ago. The celebration continues to this day.
The Bean cut the pad of his paw on something and bled all over the house. Good times! A trip to the vet, a very large bill, and one big bandage later, he’s on the mend – but none too happy about it, even though the bandage has now been replaced with a baby bootie (really). Poor Chav!
I love my new t-shirt (thanks for the link, Mandy!). In other news, spring is busy here in the Roc. Class is over (just now, as a matter of fact), so yay to that! Gilda’s Gang is getting ready to kick off next month, and I’m on two new committees as well. Planning a road trip to my old stomping grounds in Nashville (thinking dry thoughts for everyone there!), as well as trips to see Mandy over the Fourth of July and Lisa and my new “niece” in August. Also spending lots of time with my local favorites: Heather (and Sam and Dean), Julia, Linds, and Jojo. It’s a good life, even if it lacks a TARDIS!
While he wasn’t technically my first Doctor, Tennant is my favorite, so the title of this post comes from his swan song, “The End of Time”:
We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.
Tonight was the Gilda’s Club volunteer recognition dinner. I got recognized! (Thanks, Gilda’s staff.) It’s pretty random that I got involved with Gilda’s simply because I’d once walked a half marathon and they needed trainers for their new half marathon program, and now here we are, two years later. If it weren’t for Gilda’s, I wouldn’t know KPo, featured in this self-portrait (and of course he looks better than me!):
And I wouldn’t have Jojo in my life! What would I do without her?! Here she is, at long last:
The title of this post is from, of course, Gilda Radner:
Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.
Hugh Panaro was in town this weekend, performing in a concert version of South Pacific with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Johanna, her mom, and I went to the show, and afterwards I got to visit with Hugh for a little bit (photo by Jojo). The only thing missing was Sarah!
A couple of random pictures from events past… First up: Cathy, me, and Alex on the morning of the Rochester Half Marathon last September. Race mornings = the only time I go out in public without eye makeup!
And here’s a shot of me and Sarah out and about in Rochester on St. Patrick’s Day weekend:
